Jewelry that transforms is a style that’s been trending, starting with several appearances by brands showcasing during jewelry week in Las Vegas.
It’s easy to see why: When a single piece of jewelry can be worn any number of ways, it feels all the more timeless and versatile; it’s more bang for the buck. And we’re talking quite a few bucks: These pieces are artisan-made and comprise precious material and unique mechanisms that in some cases are even patented—they’re worthy of their price. Still, when a customer spends a significant sum on a piece of jewelry, however excellent, it’s a reasonable demand that it be versatile.
With its latest collection called Twist, the captivating Kavant & Sharart displays an exercise in versatility that speaks to the customers who need their jewelry to be as flexible as they are.
Inspired by rock ’n’ roll, the collection seeks to celebrate a time when music was eclectic and fun, with movement and rhythm in each design.
“We feel that modern women have so many roles to play,” says Kavant & Sharart cofounder Shar-Linn Liew. “From being a mother to a businesswoman, running daily errands, the versatility of her jewelry is so important—her being able to get more from one piece.”
The Singapore- and Bangkok-based brand’s aesthetic—contemporary silhouettes, baguette gemstones, and bold color—is on full display in the new collection, elevated by each item’s ability to transform, rotate, layer, or all three.
“We wanted to do something new and something different with this collection; transformable jewelry takes time and exceptional craftsmanship,” says Liew. “I was trying to decide on the orientation of a gemstone on a ring and I adored it both ways. Kenny [cofounder Nuttapon “Kenny” Yongkiettakul] stepped in and solved the dilemma by creating a mechanism that allows the wearer to wear it both ways. When it comes to investing in fine jewelry, we feel it adds more value by the wearer being able to get several looks out of one piece.”
A selection of rings, pendants, and earrings rotate either north-south or east-west, while other pieces from the line offer even more versatility.
Take the Twist Reflection earrings (pictured above). “Complete with center studs surrounded by a double jacket, these earrings can be worn as studs and with or without the middle (island) or outer jacket,” says Liew of the pair. “The studs for a more practical option or dressed up with the double jackets.”
