The arm stack, or the trend of buying delicate bracelets that work well stacked together, has been a boon to fine jewelers everywhere. Catnip to self-purchasers, the trend entices people to keep on buying arm wear, so they can add ever more pieces to their highly personalized stacks.
But, as with all trends, it’s only a swing of the pendulum away from fading out (surely to return next year or the year after). And based on the impressive statement cuffs and bangles we saw at the jewelry shows in Las Vegas in June, it appears that the pendulum has already begun its shift.
In other words, the layering trend’s days may be numbered. As the months go on, don’t be surprised if you start to see wider, more substantial, and often costlier bracelet styles take its place.
The new emphasis on bigger, bolder wrist wear is of a piece with fashion’s fall 2022 love affair with oversized accessories. Seen in shoes, bags, and hats, the maxi look translates well to bracelets, which can effortlessly accommodate the extra heft (unlike, say, earrings).
While the considerable cost of gold ($1,765 per ounce, last we checked) means the gilded styles shown below are not likely to appeal to shoppers on a budget, the rising interest in silver and two-tone jewelry (check out Chris Ploof’s Supernova cuff) suggests that most jewelry lovers will be able buy a statement-making stunner when they’re ready to retire their stacks.
