As prized a possession as most jewelry is, some of us don’t have a correspondingly precious place to store it.
Sure, you could leave the jewels in their original boxes, safely kept and tucked away. But if one is a collector, those boxes could get out of hand pretty quickly—not to mention the digging through each one to find the right piece.
Some hang their jewels on a wall, others stack rings and earrings and sweet trinket trays. Many find a system that works well. But the ultimate jewelry storage solution might just be a box that is as gorgeous as the pieces inside it—with the proper organizational compartments to boot.
One such offering is from Trove, a Melbourne, Australia, brand whose name perfectly illustrates a treasured collection.
Launched by Hannah Ward in 2020, Trove’s offerings are inspired by antique and vintage jewelry boxes, though there is a distinctly modern style to them. Glossy in an assortment of magnificent colors—blush, mint, malachite, and candy-apple red among them—each piece is made by hand using traditional lacquerware methods.
“Trove feels like something your grandmother would have owned, but for today,” says Ward. “All Trove pieces are handcrafted and wonderful to use. We designed them to be beautiful with incredible function, to encourage people to enjoy their jewelry every day. Our pieces form part of the decor and can be enjoyed daily, rather than being kept hidden away in the back of a drawer. We want people to wear their special pieces and not just save them for special occasions. For me, I love jewelry and am so inspired by jewelry designers, so this is the most satisfying part of what we are doing.”
There are a lot of jewelry boxes on the market, and no doubt this line is special. While trends in jewelry may ebb and flow, how does that compare with their storage? “We see a growing following for true craft. A lot of the large luxury houses are seeing this and acting on it too; they know that craft is where true luxury is at. Secondly, there is a movement toward people being more discerning about their purchases and what they bring into their homes and their lives. People are reevaluating their relationships with what makes them happy and what is truly important to them. Trove pieces are timeless. They have meaning, significance, and definitely bring joy. That is why we are seeing such a wonderful response to our pieces.”
Trove currently offers a small jewelry box, mini and large trunks, small and large stackable jewelry trades, and additional trunk inserts. The brand also offers a collaborative design with jewelry brand Sorellina, featuring a gorgeous interior designed to celebrate the jeweler’s Tarot collection.
“I loved working with Kim and Nic from Sorellina!” says Ward. “We most definitely do and are always looking to collaborate with other creatives. Watch this space.”
Prices start at $128 for the compartment inserts, while the jewelry boxes range in price from $689 to $1,160.
