Britt’s Pick: Sapphire Fleur Ring by Fade to Black Studio

Share

As spring turns to summer and occasions like Mother’s Day pass by, there tends to be less talk of flowers and more of the tropical paraphernalia—palm trees, sunshine, and the like. It’s not that our love for flowers goes away—it just gets taken for granted, a sight often seen on an afternoon stroll, where once-barren branches left us yearning for greenery.

But in the dog days of July and August, if one needed a reminder of the flower’s power, they wouldn’t have far to look—especially in jewelry. Between the rainbow gemstone styles and fond celestial finds, flowers are an enduring icon in jewelry that creators turn to again and again.

This Fleur ring from Fade to Black Studio, the Los Angeles–based jeweler that offers responsibly made jewelry with a focus on opals, is a gorgeous example of how versatile flowers can be.

Inspired by a flower unfolding, the ring’s matte gold, textured petals shimmer as they surround a center round green sapphire. Atop a thin gold band, the piece has a solitaire look to it, graceful on the hand (the brand’s website has photos of how it looks on a model—divine) but substantial enough to catch the eye.

If a customer were so inclined, it wouldn’t be unusual to consider it an engagement ring option, albeit one far from traditional, and imagine a gold band or even one with diamonds snuggled up next to it? What a fabulous wedding set.

For engagement or fashion wear, the Fleur is also available with an opal center stone or a tourmaline, a gorgeous natural pink. But it’s the green that feels especially timely, given the color’s summertime popularity (and also its endurance).

No matter which gemstone one opted to choose, the Fleur ring is a timeless yet unendingly interesting piece to add to the collection.
