Pearls are trending—this much you surely know. If, however, your clients are still unfamiliar with the fact that the sea-born gems are no longer reserved for matrons (and, in fact, are highly coveted by the fashion-forward crowd), there is one surefire way to convince them: Look for styles that are set in yellow gold
, especially if the goldwork has special details, as in Sauer’s Spiralis earrings featured below, or comes on a trendy chain.
To quote Boulder, Colo.–based retailer Nicole Hurdle: “The incorporation of pearls with a gold chain, something that has a modern feel with a more traditional pearl style, will work well.”
Direct-to-consumer jewelry brands such as Missoma have certainly gotten the memo. The abundance of chic gold chain necklaces strung with abbreviated lengths of pearls that now populate their web pages is proof that fashionable, youthful, and trend-conscious shoppers are taking their pearls with a heavy dose of gold.
But look beyond the web, to the scores of fine jewelers who’ve long worked in karat gold, and it’s clear that pairing pearls—especially in shades of white—with 14-, 18-, or 22k gold is the most fashionable way to wear the gems.
As you prepare for June’s onslaught of jewelry occasions—from graduations to weddings—be sure that your pearl showcase is rich with yellow gold options. Or your gold showcase has pearls aplenty. No matter how you slice it, gold ‘n’ pearls are a winning combo.
