The Italian Jewelry Manifesto: May 18–20, New York City (in person)
Hosted by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in collaboration with Federazioni Nazionale Orafi Argentieri Gioiellieri Fabbricanti and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this three-day event highlighting Italian fine jewelry will include more than 50 Italian jewelry brands. Categories include high jewelry, hand-fabricated jewels, and manufactured chains, and all be on view at the Piazza Italia initiative, a new membership network and coworking space intended to facilitate relationships between Italian jewelry companies and leading U.S. jewelry retailers. WJA Metro Tour of Sterling Hill Mining Museum: May 21, 7:30 a.m. ET (in person)
This Saturday, get ready to rock out in Odgensburg, N.J., home to the fourth oldest mine in the country and the last working underground mine in New Jersey. The state has more than 354 minerals, including 88 that fluoresce, ensuring a colorful, informative exploration of the mine, a “fluorescent rainbow tunnel,” an outdoor display of mining machinery, exhibit halls, and an opportunity to collect your own mineral specimens, all in the company of your industry colleagues. New York City Jewelry Week (NYCJW) is organizing a day trip to the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Conn., to see two exhibitions: Gold in America: Artistry, Memory, Power and American Jewelry: The Susan Grant Lewin Collection. Curator John Stuart Gordon will lead a private tour of both shows, and Susan Grant Lewin herself will be at the event to personally discuss the significance of her recent gift to the museum.
