Britt’s Pick: Sunflower Ring By Lydia Courteille

A quintessential gift for Mother’s Day, flowers are a surefire way to tell mom she’s loved, and they can be sent even from afar. Who doesn’t love a colorful bouquet brightening up their table?

To do one better, though, is to find a flower in its forever form—in jewelry—a gift that is certain to earn brownie points with the maternal figure in anyone’s life.

Luckily for shoppers, the amount of flower jewelry on the market is as abundant and varied as the moms of the world.

For an option that will have jaws dropping, look no further than Parisian jeweler Lydia Courteille. The high jewelry designer, renowned for her immaculately detailed and interesting creations, has done it again—this time, she’s put her magic touch to a sunflower.

Is there any happier bloom than a sunflower? The joyous plant is said to represent loyalty and adoration, two feelings any mother—any gift recipient, really—would be ecstatic to be on the receiving end of.

In sunny yellow gold with beautifully enameled leaves and petals, Courteille brings her sunflower to life with a bed of black diamonds set culet up, appearing as the disc florets (the center part) of a sunflower. The large bloom is anchored by a multi-row band of diamonds, a worthy stage for such an enchanting centerpiece.

While the timing is ideal for Mother’s Day with this newest release, one needn’t be a mother or have a mother to bask in the happiness of this sparkling bouquet.

The sunflower, though native to the Americas, is the national flower of Ukraine, a rising symbol of the resistance against the country’s invasion by Russian forces. Ukraine was reportedly the world’s largest source of sunflower oil last year, accounting for around a third of global production.

Symbolic and smiling, the sunflower is an eternal symbol that should be rightly immortalized in jewelry, as Lydia Courteille has done so beautifully here.
