Signet Eliminates Chief Merchandising Officer Role

Signet Jewelers has eliminated its chief merchandising officer position, and as a result, the person currently filling that role, Tonia “Toni” Zehrer, is leaving the company.

“As Signet’s banner value propositions evolved, the company determined that the merchant responsibilities need to be embedded in the banners and therefore the chief merchant role was eliminated,” Zehrer tells JCK via email.

Signet confirmed it had eliminated the chief merchandising officer position and will not be replacing Zehrer. “We are very appreciative of her contributions,” says a spokesperson.

Zehrer has served as the company’s senior vice president, chief merchandising officer, since April 2018, based out of its Dallas office, according to LinkedIn. Prior to that, Zehrer worked at Sears Holdings and Edgar’s Department Stores.

She has also served as a board member of the Women’s Jewelry Association.

“I was proud to lead the merchandising transformation strategy and assortment over the past few years,” Zehrer says. “I am really proud of what I was able to accomplish at Signet, and leave with a strong sense of accomplishment. I am cheering the Signet team on, and wish them much success.”

She adds: “I will be exploring opportunities and will share any news I may have with you in the future.”
