45 Carat Diamond Could Fetch $6 Million In Christie’s Sale

Share

Christie’s has yet another massive stone hitting the auction block this month. Meet the Flawless Star, a 45.46 ct. flawless D color diamond that’s headlining the Jewels Online and the Flawless Star sale (beginning today and running through April 7). Expected to go from anywhere between $4 million and $6 million, the round brilliant-cut jewel is the highest lot on offer, also without reserve.

“As we continue to reach new heights of offerings in our Jewels Online channel, we are proud to present the Flawless Star,” the head of jewelry at Christie’s Americas, Daphne Lingon, tells JCK. “Belonging to the rare Type IIa category, which makes up less than 2% of all diamonds, this superb diamond is the highest valued jewel to be offered in an online-only sale at Christie’s.”

Considered the most chemically pure diamonds, with no perceivable nitrogen or boron impurities and the highest thermal conductivity, those in the Type IIa category are incredibly transparent. They can be extremely rare and highly coveted, particularly when they’re on the larger size of the spectrum. So it’s no surprise that the Flawless Star is expected to go for millions, especially given that last month, Christie’s online sale broke records with its highest bidder participation yet, from 28 different countries.

Aside from the Flawless Star, the online sale will offer over 200 lots spotlighting even more diamonds, colored stones, and beyond. Classic pieces like Aldo Cipullo’s Juste un Clou gold bracelet (est. $20,000 to $30,000), Van Cleef & Arpels’ Vintage Alhambra turquoise long necklace (est. $10,000 to $15,000) and Magic Alhambra diamond earrings ($15,000 to $20,000), and others from jewelry maisons like Buccellati, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co., and many more will also be open for bidding, most without reserve.
