As new spring fashions hit the shelves, there’s no denying the bohemian aesthetic that appears as a common denominator, in a range of price points and brands.
Couple that with the past year or two’s “cottagecore” and arts-and-crafts style, and there’s one bit of detailed jewelry that could be perfect all around: the braid.
There’s something about the braided detail that has it running rampant in men’s wedding bands, but it’s everywhere if you look. It rides trend waves, well, because it’s flexible, and because of that, it’s rather timeless too.
Take now, for example. We’re loving the sculptural metal creations, the likes of which have been shared here on JCK over the last year or so. Braided texture fits that description well, offering beautiful detail often only in metal (that is, no gemstones).
There’s also the big demand for chain necklaces—know what type of chain looks cool? A braided one! You can also find braids in hoop earrings, stack-worthy bands, bracelets, and more.
On the topic of rings, we’re definitely feeling a “more is more” mood after the showstopping red carpet jewels from recent awards shows. Multiple celebs went with a fistful of cocktail rings, and that kind of jewelry power cannot be denied.
Still, there’s something to be said for the simple beauty of a bare hand with one delicate band. After a season or two of ring maximalism, it’s bound to be refreshing. In the meantime, many bands like some of the ones pictured here are would sit beautifully atop even the biggest rings.
Jewelry with braided detail—wheat, woven, plaits—is both trendy and timeless, old and new. Antique seekers will delight in their findings of the sort, but those with a heart for modern styles should be pleased too.
