Aditya Shah (pictured), a member of the Indian team of De Beers broker I. Hennig, has joined lab-grown diamond producer Diamond Foundry as its vice president of sales.
He will work for the company’s vice president of global sales Toby Cruse, the former De Beers executive who last year set up Diamond Foundry’s international headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Shah has worked for Hennig since June 2017. Prior to that, he worked as an operations manager and rough buyer for Diarough Middle East, where he specialized in buying gems from Angola. Prior to that he worked for 11 years as a manager and director for another De Beers sightholder, Rosy Blue. He has lived and worked in Belgium, Israel, India, Russia, South Africa, the UAE, and Angola.
He is the second executive of I. Hennig, the largest rough broker in the business, to move to a lab-grown company in recent weeks. In January, Eyal Axelrod, the managing director of Hennig’s Israeli office, joined Israeli producer Lusix as its vice president of sales.
In related news, Jeremy Scholz, one of three founders of Diamond Foundry and its first chief technical officer, has transitioned to a part-time role.
A company source tells JCK that Scholz was “our founding CTO and is still really engaged and advises, he just isn’t directly managing a team. We’ve been fortunate in hiring some really experienced manufacturing scaling engineers, so he doesn’t have to be as immersed in the day-to-day.”
Scholz’s LinkedIn profile says he’s been serving as a part-time technology adviser since September 2021. He did not respond to a request for comment from JCK.
Scholz, along with CEO Martin Roscheisen and president Kyle Gazay, launched Diamond Foundry in “stealth mode” in 2012.
