The Accredited Gemologists Association has named Kate Donovan (pictured) its new executive director.
Since March 2020, she has served as the group’s director of marketing and business development. She will continue to serve in that role with this new appointment.
As executive director, Donovan will work on coordinating and managing AGA’s front office while trying to increase the group’s membership, brand awareness, and member benefits.
Prior to her work at AGA, Donovan worked as manager of alumni relations for the Gemological Institute of America and as a boutique manager at Roberto Coin, according to LinkedIn.
She will be taking over the group from Jan Giamanco, who is retiring after serving as executive director for more than two decades.
Founded in 1974, the Accredited Gemologists Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, consisting of accredited gemologists dedicated to providing continuing education and promoting professional standards in gemology.
The group is known for its Antonio C. Bonanno Award, which is presented annually at the AGTA Tucson show, and next year the award will be going to former JCK editor Gary Roskin. (The AGA event this year was canceled.)
