I love when jewelers work with anodized titanium because it often means we’re treated to a dose of supersaturated bright and bold color. When the metal is paired with similarly hued gemstones, we get a gorgeous monochrome look that seemingly stands out from miles away. Such is the case with the Pink Swirl earrings from London-based brand Lily Gabriella Fine Jewellery.
In striking hot pink, this dizzyingly delightful pair speaks to our desire for bright colors in the summer, though I rather think they’re perfect for the coming fall. The rich shade of fuchsia and ombré pattern of fancy pink sapphires would positively pop against the browns and blacks we so often turn to in the autumn, keeping color close by even when our wardrobes begin to shift a bit toward neutral.
The design, with rows of gemstones culminating in a near-circle, is inspired by the sweeping lines made by rakes in Japanese zen gardens, and it does imbue the jewels with a calming effect despite their shocking shade. Lily Gabriella Elia, the Brazilian designer behind the brand, was also inspired by the minimalist work of architect Tadao Ando, whose famous work for the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art in Kobe, Japan, bears a resemblance to the spiraling earrings.
When worn, the earrings appear like a cross between an oversize stud and a hoop—a statement of size and color, and certainly one that demands to be worn alone, though a small trail of diamonds up the ear would work quite nicely with it too.
Elia, a trained gemologist and diamond appraiser, creates one-of-a-kind pieces for private clients and has been tapped to design collections for Christie’s and Sotheby’s, the latter of which JCK profiled back in November 2019. The jeweler also offers a number of collections available for purchase via her website, including the very timely Modern Talisman line.
