Pandora is making moves to relocate its current North American headquarters from downtown Baltimore, and hasn’t decided if it will stay in the area, the Copenhagen-based charm and jewelry manufacturer said.
Baltimore Business Journal reported last week that Pandora had put its five-floor headquarters up for sublease. The address has become known as “Pandora building,” as the company’s brand logo is emblazoned on top.
In an emailed statement, Detria Courtalis, interim general manager for Pandora North America, tells JCK that employees have “started returning” to its office on Pratt Street downtown, after spending a year working remotely because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, she adds, “our team is continuing to explore a potential building relocation. This is the right moment for us to reimagine our U.S. office space and culture, as well as consider new ways of working.”
When asked if the company might leave the Baltimore area, a spokesperson replied: “No decisions have been made at this time as we manage these new ways of working.”
Baltimore Business Journal wrote that while Pandora’s 2015 move to the city from Columbia, Md., was considered a “coup for downtown” Baltimore, its possible departure six years later “could leave another void totaling close to 90,000 square feet on the downtown landscape,” at a time when the city’s vacancy rate is nearing 24%.
In June, Pandora appointed Luciano Rodembusch, the former senior vice president of the Americas for Tiffany & Co., as general manager of the charm maker’s North America cluster, taking over from Sid Keswani. Rodembusch will begin his new role on Aug. 1.
Last year, Pandora’s Baltimore headquarters shed jobs as a result of a reorganization, though a spokesperson commented that some jobs would be added as well.
The United States remains the company’s largest market.
