There are scores of turquoise pieces that are positively scrumptious for summer and beyond, but if pressed to choose just one, I’d go with this creation from Los Angeles–based jeweler Arman Sarkisyan, which I utterly adore.
Evidence of the designer’s Armenian roots are beautifully baked in to the piece, from the rich yellow gold contrasted with oxidized silver and diamonds to the intricate floral engraving that decorates the smaller of the two spheres. The designer offers a similar version in all gold that looks like a glorious gift from afar, but of course the kicker in this edition is the ball of turquoise.
While still absolutely stately, the cool, summery gemstone lends a slightly more casual, upbeat, and playful vibe to the design, letting the wearer enjoy the best of both worlds. The hand-engraved orb is one to be taken seriously, an awe-inspiring work of art that’s polished and poised. Its neighboring turquoise sphere, however, lets everyone know the carefree summer vibes are alive and well.
The two-headed ring is an ideal match for July birthdays—and for anyone who just loves turquoise (doesn’t everyone?)—especially those who are drawn to vintage style, with its old-world appeal and hand-detailing. There’s a modernity to the piece too, largely attributed to the jubilant blue sphere that provides the eye-catcher of the scene. It’s proof that you really can have it all, and its dual personality makes it a good fit for a wide range of styles and personal jewelry collections.
Arman Sarkisyan offers a spellbinding line of jewelry that has captivated us here at JCK more than once, and for quite some time now (see this JCK Asks feature from 2012!), and the designer will no doubt continue to delight with time. I can’t wait to see what comes next, but for now I’m satisfied with taking in this birthstone beauty for all of July.
