Those who have a passion for jewelry, or a taste for luxury for that matter, are probably familiar with the designs of Todd Reed. The designer is known for his organic delights, rife with uncut, natural diamonds set in scattered, free-spirited patterns, glittering against materials like hammered yellow gold and patinaed silver.
Reed isn’t the only designer to find the inherent beauty in a diamond in the rough, but his designs are instantly recognizable. I delight in spotting his pieces in the showcases of my local jewelry store, glittering with natural and brilliant-cut diamonds, their humble yet lushly luxurious existence a dead giveaway.
Todd Reed could have been anything: He graduated with a culinary degree, designed everything from furniture to clothing, painted, and sculpted. He found his path in jewelry with a mentorship from a well-known diamond collector. Todd Reed Jewelry was born in 1992, and those with an eye for design have been cherishing the collections since.
My favorite of the latest pieces is without a doubt the rose gold cuff bracelet, pictured at the top of this page. The satiny metal looks like it’s just been dusted with sparkle, sprinkled with a combination of natural and brilliant diamonds. It manages to be subtle in a way, but oh so very rich at the same time—and the price tag denotes the latter. (I’m planting birthday-gift seeds now, to anyone in my family reading this. Hello? Anyone?) Most of his pieces are like that: luxe without bragging, high quality that gains appreciation by the wearer (or coveter) with each discovered detail and note of workmanship.
So if you’re looking for a new designer to get into your stores this new year, this is it. Your high-end shoppers will appreciate that you sprang for something refreshing and out of the ordinary. If you do stock Todd Reed, give me a shout—I’ll have somewhere to send that lucky family member who will undoubtedly be shopping for my birthday soon.
