The jewelry gods must finally be listening to the Twittersphere, which uttered nary a complaint last night. Monica Stephenson of iDazzle.com and @idazzle, was among the contented. “So, my R.A.S.S. syndrome didn’t kick in tonight (that’s Rage Against Stylists (who) Stud). Nary a diamond stud to be seen,” she tweeted.

Instead, big drop earrings commanded the spotlight. Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett wore Chopard opal drops, the shape of which mimicked the silhouette of swirls of Swarovski crystals set on her nude Armani Prive gown. Meanwhile, Olivia Wilde wore drop earrings from Lorraine Schwartz, Gabourey Sidibe wore drop earrings from newcomer Dionea Orcini, and 12 Years a Slave’s Sarah Paulson wore circular-motif drops from Piaget.

Also to the delight of many, some impressive necklaces played roles in attire. Naomi Watts wore a Bulgari diamond spider-webesque number, while Jennifer Lawrence—who fell for the second consecutive year (this time walking the red carpet and not on her way to the stage), giving host Ellen DeGeneres fresh joke fodder—wore a carved crystal and diamond necklace that once again trailed down her back à la backlace, while Frozen’s Idina Menzel wore a major diamond choker from Chimento. Kristen Bell wore a floral-leaf rivière of diamonds, and Charlize Theron wore a diamond-studded Y style from Harry Winston punctuated with a large pendant from and center.

Other memorable looks included Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o’s gold rings, snake bracelet, and headband from Fred Leighton Jewelry; Best Actress nominee Amy Adams’ colored stone drop earrings from Tiffany & Co.; and Angelina Jolie’s 42 ct. diamond earrings from Robert Procop.
