Rapaport Corp. will operate take-in windows for Antwerp lab HRD at its 11 offices throughout the world, including New York City and Las Vegas.
Martin Rapaport and HRD executives made the announcement May 6 at a function at the New York City Diamond Dealers Club, commemorating the second day of its “Antwerp Week.”
HRD CEO Serge Couvreur said the announcement was a “milestone in the history of HRD Antwerp.”
In a seeming poke at his rivals, he said operating take-in windows was preferable to opening new labs.
“If you are a lab and you open too many labs thoughout the world in order to gain market share, it can jeopardize your business,” he said.
He did note that HRD had opened new labs in the Indian cites of Mumbai and Surat.
“Our future lies in our ability to expand our trade in all directions,” said Rapaport, adding that diamond people need to ask, “how am I adding value to the industry?”
