Pearls just keep getting better. Or maybe it’s that they were always great, and proof of that just keeps on coming. Either way, a new collection from Judith Ripka is further evidence of the power of pearl.
Shima is the name of the collection, an ensemble of jewels inspired by the pearl-hunting heritage of Japan’s Ago Bay.

Golden waves swoop and sway, a nod to the watery home from which the pearls are harvested. Classic meets contemporary in the ropelike detailing seen throughout, tied together by the pearls that appear to float on the surfaces of their gilded homes. There are items in the collection to appeal to a multitude of styles—ear climbers and one heck of a cuff bracelet for modern, fashion-forward flair, a gorgeous three-stone ring, and dainty drop earrings are classic all day, every day.
“Because pearls are one of the most beautiful natural elements, they have been used in fine jewelry for years,” says Winter. “What we love about the Shima collection is that, while it utilizes a precious and classic material, it has been reimagined for today’s woman by incorporating them into new silhouettes.
