Savor the last bits of summer in grand (socially distanced) fashion this Labor Day weekend. Then, the WJA’s annual Jewelry Night Out takes it inside, Russell Jones and Judi Powers head west, Marla Aaron talks locks, and tennis star Naomi Osaka is a model Citizen at the U.S. Open.
CELEBRATE
Women’s Jewelry Association Jewelry Night In: Sept. 10, 7 p.m. ET
It’s one of the Women’s Jewelry Association’s (WJA) biggest events of the year, timed to coincide with NYC’s fashion week, and this year, Jewelry Night Out is a virtual affair, fittingly dubbed the WJA Jewelry Night In. Pull up a chair, pour some wine: In lieu of individual guest speakers at each chapter’s gathering, WJA members will meet online to hear an address by guest of honor Caryl Capeci, CEO of Chow Tai Fook North America. The evening will conclude with individual chapter breakout sessions to give WJA members and prospective members a chance to connect with each other on a local level, via Zoom.

What brings two upstate New York–based jewelry designers to Zionsville, Ind. (about 25 minutes north of Indianapolis)? The chance to show their collections at Robert Goodman Jewelers, a retailer who invests in jewelry artists who are committed to creating their lines with ethically sourced materials and minimal impact on the environment. Russell Jones and Judi Powers, a couple known and beloved by many in the industry, are both Fairmined gold licensees—one of many reasons to meet them, shop, and find out more about their sustainable processes.

The Jewelry District, Episode 26—Guest Marla Aaron: Ongoing
A new episode of JCK‘s podcast dropped last Tuesday and it’s a good one: Editor-in-chief Victoria Gomelsky and news director Rob Bates interview jewelry designer Marla Aaron. Best known for her lock jewelry, her unconventional (genius?) sales tactics, and a recent runway collaboration with fashion designer Roland Mouret, Aaron talks about her rise to acclaim and teases details about a forthcoming collection set to debut later this month.
Top: The U.S. Open continues this week in spectator-free stadiums in Flushing Meadows, Queens. Rolex is the sponsor, Serena Williams was spotted wearing a piece from her Unstoppable line, and Naomi Osaka (pictured) has been wearing a bright yellow Citizen watch on the court. As a Citizen brand ambassador, Osaka is participating in the brand’s Better Starts Now initiative. Politically engaged, vocal about her beliefs, and as positive as she is talented, Osaka embodies the mission on and off the court. Fans will love this video interview with the champ on Citizen’s website, and can check the tournament schedule of play for her next court appearance. (Photo courtesy of Citizen)
