As colors go, pink is straightforward. It is cherry blossoms and bubblegum, rosy cheeks and rose petals, strawberry ice cream and cotton candy. Pink diamonds, however, are enigmatic—the origin of their hue a mystery, even as other colored diamonds’ secrets are unlocked. In this Leviev necklace, which sold for a sweet $10.2 million at Christie’s Geneva in May, the 76.51 ct. pale pink prize is framed by a corona of pavé-set pink, ­yellow, and green diamonds. The chain also sparkles with fancy-cut colorless and pink diamonds. But the rarefied pink remains the top draw. “The stone is a classic Asscher-cut gem with very clean purity,” says Rahul Kadakia, international head of Christie’s Jewelry. “It is also part of the rare type IIA group of diamonds.” Like we said: pretty (complicated) in pink.
