As the birthstone of March, this seems like an ideal time to be talking shiny aquamarine, but really the dreamy blue gem is at the top of shoppers’ lists all year-round.
Aquamarine has been making stellar appearances as the center of many an engagement ring. It’s massively gorgeous in large carat form, the star of gorgeous cocktail rings and heavyweight necklaces, and it’s alluring in small doses, too—mix-and-match stud earrings, stacking rings and bands, tiny birthstone pendants.
Consumer demand for blue gemstones is usually pretty reliable—have you ever met someone who doesn’t like the color blue? It tends to play well with everything and is easy on the eyes. But with Classic Blue being Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year, a rise in the number of shoppers wanting to score an aquamarine is almost a sure bet. Imagine seeing that particular shade of Pantone’s blue everywhere you go—it’s classic, as the name suggests, beautiful and comforting too—but if you’ve see enough of one thing, you’re often going to yearn for something different. That pale light blue hue that aquamarine is generally known for is a good choice: It complements the classic blue beautifully, so it won’t fight any jewelry or attire procured in the color of the moment, and it’s just different enough to feel like a refreshing change from the norm.
As if on cue, brands and designers have been turning out a smattering of highly impressive aquamarine jewels, offered in a range of price points and aesthetics to please a multitude of customer palates. These are some of the latest.
