The De Beers Family of Companies released its sixth annual
Report to Society June 23.
The full report, “Living Up to Diamonds,” articulates the company’s approach
to managing sustainability issues and charts its sustainability performance in
2010.
Highlights of the report include:
- A 34
percent increase in overall production provided an increase in payments to
stakeholders around the world to $5 billion. In 2009, the total was $3.4
million. - In
2010, $1.12 billion in rough diamonds was supplied to sightholders for
manufacturing in southern Africa. In 2009, the total was $579 million. - The
family of companies disbursed a total of $29.8 million incommunity social
investment, including contractually mandated initiatives and in-kind
contributions. - The
family of companies continued to provide Anti-Retroviral Treatment to a total
of 1,652 employees and their partners in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa.
