U.S. online retail sales will jump nearly 16 percent this
holiday, to reach $52 billion, according to a new forecast by Forrester
Research.
This predicted growth rate is double 2009’s rate, when
online holiday sales leaped 8 percent.
“Almost universally, online retailers expect their
holiday sales to increase this year over last year,” said Sucharita Mulpuru,
Forrester Research vice president and principal analyst.
In a related story, a National Retail Federation survey found
that 44 percent of consumers expect to make some part of their holiday purchases
online.
