GIA brochure explains diamond grading reports

A new brochure created by the Gemological Institute of America offers assistance to retail jewelers in explaining the GIA Diamond Grading Report and Diamond Dossier to the public. The brochure discusses the Institute’s history of creating the “four Cs” and the International Diamond Grading System and summarizes the GIA Gem Laboratory’s grading procedures and staff expertise, as well as its independent and impartial status.

The Report and dossier are depicted on the brochure’s far-right panel, along with a summary of each. The GIA Diamond Grading Report contains an authoritative assessment of the diamond’s 4Cs—clarity, color, cut, and carat weight—as well as a diagram of the diamond’s clarity characteristics. The dossier was created by GIA as an optional alternative to the full Diamond Grading Report, for diamonds weighing .99 cts. or less, GIA states. Every diamond graded with the Diamond Dossier includes a micro-laser inscription of the diamond’s unique GIA Report Registry number.

To request copies of the brochure, please call Kathy Gilmore at 760-603-4064 or, toll free, 1-800-421-7250, or e-mail kgilmore@gia.edu. More information on GIA grading reports is available through the GIA Web site, www.gia.edu.
