If you’ve poured over any of the runway shots from the recent NYFW events (or were so fortunate as to attend any), you may have noticed one color in particular that beamed the loudest: Yellow. From Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford to Naeem Khan and my absolute favorite look of the whole week from Oscar de la Renta, the sunny shade was nearly everywhere.
This isn’t the first time in recent years that yellow has popped up, but it’s one of those colors that seems new every time you see it. It’s always available somewhere, and yet, when it comes in a rush down the runway, on the red carpet, or in stores, it’s somehow refreshing. Perhaps it’s that strength in numbers really works for yellow. Or perhaps it’s high time we say sayonara to Millennial Pink, as beautiful a hue as it is.
Consumers are finicky, and too much of a good thing gets to be, well, a bit boring, doesn’t it? So this unleashing of everything yellow seems brilliantly new, even if it’s really just a repeat from a few years ago—it’s desired, it’s exciting, and it’s welcomed with open arms.
It’s quite similar in jewelry: Maybe that yellow diamond pendant has been sitting in the case for a bit, hardly noticed by the browsing customer—and bam!—yellow’s hot, and shoppers take notice. I’m not sure the jewelry industry will ever tire of a fabulous yellow diamond or sapphire, but it certainly makes sense to strike while the hype is hot. The same goes for yellow gold, by the way: It’s so beautiful when paired with yellow attire since the look is so warm, like bathing in the sun. So gather your finest yellow jewels—gemstone and metal—and march them front-and-center for all of your shoppers to see. Here are some to beef up that stock, if you’d like.
