5 Reasons You Can’t Miss WJA’s Jewelry Night Out

The Women’s Jewelry Association’s upcoming Jewelry Night Out is happening nationwide across 19 U.S. cities on Thursday, Sept. 10. This year marks No. 3 for the upscale annual membership drive, often enhanced in various cities via a fashion- or jewelry-related guest speaker. In the New York Metro chapter, for example (full disclosure: I’m on the board), our VIP guest is Leonard Lauren of Ralph Lauren, who’ll be sharing lifestyle-branding tips from his career in his brother’s firm. And the venue for this year’s affair, the Midtown Loft & Terrace, can accommodate up to 300 people! It’s going to be a blast of a night complete with a custom prosecco-kissed cocktail. Want more proof why JNO will be the hottest ticket in 19 towns on the second Thursday in September? Here are five reasons why JNO is trending now in our industry.

New York Metro’s guest at last year’s JNO, the legendary Iris Apfel

1. JNO doesn’t overlap with the September HKJGF. Last year’s JNO overlapped with the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, but this year it doesn’t. Last year, some of our New York Metro chapter members celebrated in Hong Kong but this year they’ll celebrate in the city. Did the HKJGF rearrange its dates to avoid conflicting with the WJA’s most highly attended event of the year? Of course not—the WJA changed its date. Still, the point remains: There’s no conflict.

2. JNO is happening during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. It’s telling that our affair is taking place during the same week of one of the most important fashion-industry events worldwide. Jewelry is inextricably tied to fashion, and while it’s taken some time for jewelers to realize, respect, embrace, and promote that position, it is important for them to do so and celebrate it. Jewelry is part of your fashion wardrobe.

3. JNO can take place abroad. As evidenced last year by WJA members in Hong Kong, the spirit of JNO transcends country lines and can happen wherever members meet. So even if you are traveling abroad on Sept. 10, gather with international members (WJA has an affiliate in India) to take part in the spirit of female empowerment, support, and camaraderie. Not a member or near another member? Align yourself with the closest group of vibrant, positive, supportive folks you can find.

4. JNO can give you exposure! Want to promote a new tool, service, software type, packaging product, or photography firm? Position your product or company in front of the WJA membership through a JNO sponsorship—starting in small denominations. For more information, reach out to the chapter nearest to you (for New York Metro, email me at jheebner@jckonline.com). It’s cost-effective exposure for you while also supporting a nonprofit that aims to better serve its members through special events. To be sure, WJA can’t host significant affairs like JNO without your financial support.

JNO will leave you full—of food and drink for sure, but also of friendship and professional contentment. My own involvement with WJA in recent years has been important for many reasons, but the single biggest is because I have been able to surround myself with upbeat, positive, down-to-earth women who genuinely nurture and support one another. Today’s WJA is no gang of mean girls. I am so grateful for the friendship, welcoming and inclusive environment, and learning opportunities that have available to me through involvement in WJA.
