Baguette-cut diamonds are in growing in popularity. The shape has long had a home in original Art Deco jewelry and as side stones in engagement rings, but it is receiving new life in Deco-inspired and contemporary designs.
The slim silhouette is a step cut—siblings are the emerald and Asscher—with rectilinear facets that number fewer than those in brilliant-cut diamonds. Baguettes are also shallow cuts that don’t reflect light as much as others and therefore sparkle less and show inclusions more, which is why they often serve in supporting-stone roles. But when used in force, they create an understated luxury that rivals the most radiant of non-step-cut rocks.
