Bees. So many are frightened of this miraculous creature. When I was about 7, I was stung by a bee on the bottom of my foot. It’s the only time it’s ever happened, and you can bet I laid it on thick. Truth is, the pain wasn’t even that bad. And the bee stung me only because it was interested in my candy apple, and I probably kicked it or something. But anyway, the story goes this way with plenty of folks. You’re stung, it hurts, bees are bad. But it’s so totally, wholly, and completely not the case. And Gumuchian really, really wants to change your mind.
You’ve probably heard about Gumuchian’s B collection. It’s a stunning line of rich gold jewelry, a portion of the proceeds of which are donated to honeylove.org, a nonprofit that supports urban beekeeping and home gardens. The cause and collection are phenomenal, plus it delights with pieces like this. My favorite, the medallion pictured above, is seriously insane in person. A 71 ct. round citrine makes up the bulk of the piece, with the look of honey good enough to reach out and taste. Its sticky aesthetic is wrapped in a pattern of golden honeycombs, like a sweet barrier that protects the oh-so-precious ingredient. A ring of diamonds frames the piece, and the design is topped off with the cutest little bee charm at the clasp. Now even if you’re afraid of bees, you have to admit, this is extraordinary. I think Gumuchian is doing its part to get us on board, don’t you? If your mind hasn’t been changed by the jewels, take a look at this projection of what our grocery stores would look like without bees. It is truly scary stuff.
There are a multitude of designs in various price ranges in Gumuchian’s B collection (my favorite, of course, is $15,000). Find more of your favorites here.
