Vault Peeping: Arunashi’s Amazing Aquamarines

I have a thing for aquamarines. I think it goes back to my days as a staff editor at various wedding magazines and websites. Whenever I pulled jewelry for photo shoots or curated photos for a slide show, it was hard to stick to diamonds and pearls exclusively—I’m a colored stone junkie—and aquamarine was fair game in a bridal context. So I was always on the hunt for it, whether the hue was icy and delicate or that highly prized, richly saturated “swimming pool” blue (which did tend to read better in photos).

When it came time for my own wedding nearly three years ago, I accessorized with aquamarines as my “something blue.” Below, a snapshot of my luminous, if humble, little hoard, which I totally included in my wedding album for posterity.

Knowing I’d write something aquamarine-related to kick off March, I found myself peeping the “vaults” of various designers online (Pampillonia Jewelers in Washington, D.C., for example, has incredible vintage aqua pieces) and my treasure hunt soon led me to Arunashi (whom, as it happens, I hadn’t covered since my days as a bridal editor).

I had a feeling that Arun Bohra, the creative mind behind the line, and a Gem Awards nominee in the jewelry design category this year, would have some spectacular aqua statement pieces in his current stash, and I’m pleased to showcase them here.

They’re more red carpet than bridal, obviously, but undeniably editorial. Someone needs to get them in for a cover shoot stat.
