The Christie’s Hong Kong auction set three other sales records as well
That’s a lot of green.
On May 31, the Aurora Green, a 5.03 ct. VS2 fancy vivid green, sold for $16.8 million, at the Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction—setting a new record for a green diamond at auction.
The buyer was Chinese mega-retailer Chow Tai Fook.
The price-per-carat was $3.3 million, which is also a record for a green diamond.
The sale set three other auction records: an Art Deco sapphire and diamond bracelet by Cartier sold for $7.2 million, a world auction record for a bracelet; a jadeite pendant necklace by Wallace Chan achieved $967,000, a world record for a piece by Wallace Chan; and a pair of ruby ear pendants sold for $11.6 million, a world-record price for a pair of ruby earrings.
Overall, the auction realized $60 million, with 72 percent sold by lot and 73 percent sold by value.
