Although 2012 may have been a rocky road for movie star-crossed lovers—with longtime couples including Heidi Klum and Seal, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and even Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman calling it quits—it also brought us Hollywood happily-ever-after romances and rings fit for megastars.
So if you’re still torn apart about the end of TomKat, K-Stew’s cheating scandal, or how T-Swift is never ever ever getting back together with Connor Kennedy, wipe away your tears and look at some shiny bling that is sure to reinforce your ideas on love and commitment.
Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake: Sorry ladies, JT is officially off the market, marrying his 7th Heaven sweetheart during a romantic $6.5 million ceremony in Italy on Oct. 23. But before the vows and pink dress came the speculation and gossip about the engagement ring. It turns out Timberlake helped design the 6 ct. ring with jewelry designer Leor Yerushalmi—and even included accents of his bride’s birthstone in the bauble. While I’m happy for the lovebirds, the 12-year-old girl inside me can’t help but be a little bitter.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds: Speaking of the celebrity gossip, this Gossip Girl had quite a year, tying the knot with her handsome Green Lantern costar Ryan Reynolds in a small southern ceremony on Sept. 9. Although the couple kept their nuptials secret, that hefty rose-gold Lorraine Schwartz sparkler can’t be covered up.
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez: Although Halle Berry and French actor Olivier Martinez got engaged last holiday season, Berry didn’t show off her $100K engagement ring until the winter of 2012. The 4 ct. emerald, chosen by Martinez, seems to foreshadow Pantone’s color of the year.
Snooki and Jionni LaValle: In 2012, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi not only gave birth to son Lorenzo, but also got engaged to her Jersey Boy. LaValle proposed to the pint-size Guidette with a 5.02 ct. custom-designed ring from B&B Jewelers in Wayne, N.J. Now that’s a reason to fist-pump.

JWoww and Roger Matthews: Following in the footsteps of BFF Snooki, Jenni “JWoww” Farley got engaged to her Seaside Heights sweetheart, Roger Matthews, in September. Matthews, who proposed to JWoww with a 5-plus-ct. ring by Beverly Hills jewelers Layna and Alan Friedman, was very involved in the design process. “I was touched by how perfect he wanted everything to be. He took the time to learn about the stones and cut,” says Layna. Aww!

Guy Ritchie and Jacqui Ainsley: British filmmaker (and Madonna ex) Guy Ritchie is another groom-to-be who helped design the perfect ring for his fiancée. Ritchie worked with celeb jewelry designer Neil Lane before proposing to model Jacqui Ainsley with a 5 ct. round-cut diamond. “This ring is all about the detail,” Lane told me. “Guy wanted it to be feminine and vintage.”

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth: Liam Hemsworth popped the question to his pop-star girlfriend with a 3.5 ct. cushion-cut diamond ring also designed by Neil Lane. With the 18k gold ring on her left hand, Cyrus proves that she’s climbed a long way from her days as a Disney teen queen. Here’s hoping the young lovers’ future marriage is longer than Cyrus’ new haircut.

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger: In a match made in pop-rock heaven, Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger proposed to his girlfriend Avril Lavigne this summer with a hefty 14 ct. ring featuring a large pear-shape diamond surrounded by half-moon stones. If you ask me, the design looks a little “Complicated.”
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt finally took Beyoncé’s advice and put a ring on it—an emerald-cut sparkler worth more than half a million dollars. Pitt helped design the dazzling 16 ct. ring with Beverly Hills jeweler Robert Procop.
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux: America’s favorite friend became more than friends with actor-screenwriter Justin Theroux, who proposed to her with a massive 8–9 ct. ring this fall. The ring’s size caused quite a stir on the Internet, appearing as the subject of many Twitter jokes. I personally think the stone is just big enough to say “Branjelina who?”
